Women in Afghanistan, women in India

In two019, the population of women in Afghanistan is 18.51two.0two9 and in India of 656.two88.183, according to expansion.com / dataMacro.com.In both countries, disrespect for women's rights could be classified as a crime against humanity, because against this group are committed heinous crimes that include acts that are part of a generalized or systematic attack against a civilian population.

According to the United Nations Organization (UN), crimes against humanity murders, exterminations, slavery, deportation or forced transfer of population, imprisonment or deprivation of physical liberty that violate international law, torture, violations, forced prostitution or violencesexual, persecution of a group for political, racial, national, ethnic, cultural, religious or gender reasons, forced disappearance of people, apartheid and other inhuman acts that threaten the integrity of people.

All of the above is applicable to most women in both countries. So why do we focus on the women of Afghanistan and do not do it with the same momentum with those of India, which is a population 36 times larger than that of the Islamic country?

The response is probably derived from the American, capitalist media, who dimension-in their fair measure-what the Middle East does "not politically aligned"-but fustigns with less impetus to the allied countries, although their government is notdemocratic and its population is not predominantly Christian.

Without being an expert in religion and political issues, I dare to assert that this superior empathy with the women of Afghanistan, compared to those of India, is linked to politics and religion, and not to reality per se from the facts of the facts.I will try to explain it, starting to clarify that in Afghanistan 99% of the population is Muslim, who accept Islamic beliefs (80% Sunni). In India, religion with the greatest number of followers is Hinduism, with 79.80% of the population, and Elislam is practiced by 14.two3%.

In Afghanistan, the Taliban have imposed a strict and radical version of Islamic Law or Sharía, which has two9 prohibitions that apply to women. These are:

1.Work outside the home (except for a few doctors and nurses).

two.Leave home without the company of his ‘mahram’ (near kinship man).

3.Close commercial pacts with men.

Mujeres en Afganistán, mujeres en India

4.Medical attention only for women.

5.Educate in schools, universities and any other educational institution.

6.Show any part of the body in public.

7.Do not dress properly and not be accompanied by your ‘Mahram’.

8.Do not cover your ankles.

9.Have extramarital sexual intercourse.

10.Use of cosmetics.

eleven.Talk or shake off men other than their ‘mahram’.

1two.Laugh in public.

13.Take heeled shoes.

14.Get on a taxi without the company of your ‘mahram’.

fifteen.Appear on radio, television or in public meetings.

16.Practice sports.

17.Bike or motorcycle.

18.Dress with colorful colors.

19.Gather for recreational reasons.

two0.Wash clothes on rivers or public sites.

two1.Establish the word ‘woman’ in the name of any street, square or avenue.

twotwo.Look out the balconies or windows of your home.

two3.Obligation to have opaque windows in households where there are women.

two4.Prohibition of tailors to take action to women or make clothes for them.

two5.Use public bathrooms.

two6.Use Men's Buses.

two7.Use of flared pants.

two8.Photograph or record women.

two9.Publish images of women in magazines and books and hang them in houses and stores.

In India, despite the fact that there is a constitution and laws that promulg.

From the laws of Manu, founding legal text of the Hindu tradition of Dharma, the majority of disrespect for women's rights come. This writing argues that during childhood, a woman owes her father, during youth to her husband and when her husband died to her children."... the woman should never be independent (...) the woman is not made to be free".This phrase gives rise to the following traditions:

1.Child marriage is frequent since girls are born. Cuando les llega la regla, en general a los 10 u eleven años, contraen nupcias con hombres generalmente mucho mayores que ellas.

two.The dowry practice made womencontribute to marriage charges. The dowry is generally granted to man, who manages it during the duration of marriage and to occur the repudiation, separation or divorce would have to return it.

3.Women's trafficking is common in some tribes, through the cash payment of any man to the woman's family, or her change for a good appreciated as a cow or buffalo. These bought women cannot be returned to the family because it would be considered a dishonor.

4.Prohibition of working in some villages due to the fear of being abducted (without payment for them) or who flee in search of a better future.

5.Application of selective and mandatory virginity test, as a procedure to determine if a woman has never had sex.The test consists of an inspection of the hymen, because part of the premise that can only be broken as a result of a sexual relationship.

All these traditions have led to India to be the country without a more insecure war for women, resulting in:

• Infanticide - As women are seen as a load, they are tolerated to kill them at birth, leave them in the streets or stop feeding until they die of starvation.

• Femicide - Women's murders for "bad behavior" such as using pants and makeup, in addition to adultery and not being a virgin, is tolerated by many communities.

• Lapidation, blows and “return” to the family of women who do not pass the virginity test.

• Informal judicial instances (Justice of the People, Council of the Elders, etc..) to process cases where women are accused of some crime related to moral affairs, where they are condemned to collective violation and torture if they are found guilty.

• Selective abortion of girls has had a high impact on fertility, mortality and sex index, because medical technology (ultrasound) has been used, as a tool for the abortion of girls, which has influencedA great illegal abortion market and a population imbalance.

Even with the population of women in India, which is 36 times greater than that of Afghanistan, the proportion of murders for gender reasons, is far superior to those of the country at war.

But the purpose of this column is not to compare in which country more women are murdered and their rights are more violated, nor to appeal to a cause in favor of another, but to look beyond the war, the Taliban and the Sharía, the Sharía,In order not to forget and also vehement.
