A model's viral denunciation of brands' tricks to sign up for curvy fashion

Critique the situation

Karoline Bjørnelykke wanted to draw attention to the 'tricks' that some firms use to sell their clothes' plus size'.

The issue of the carving of women's clothing continues to be an important debate today. Each brand imposes its own measures, without submitting to a common code and choosing carvings according to the existing pattern options, which can be differentiated from each other.

Also in the case of the efforts of some brands not to manufacture larger clothing sizes, because although in Spain size 42 and 44 are the most sold, many firms are reluctant to respond to that market. However, the fashion sector is gradually moving towards this awareness of the inclusion of sizes and the representation of all types of bodies through diverse models.

The controversial debate has been remeditated this week following the viral denunciation of Norwegian model Karoline Bjørnelykke. The model has assured that some fashion firms limit themselves to hiring curvy models for their plus size clothing campaigns. "they want women with thin faces and bodies," he criticizes.

According to Bjørnelykke, the models that pose for these campaigns are often models with a size 40-44 that pose as if they were models of size 48. To do this, they make sure to put stuffing, as Karoline herself shows in her video, to fake a size that doesn't belong to them.

To be realistic, Karoline explains that in many photo sessions all kinds of tricks are used, such as the use of tweezers that are placed on the back of the garment, to ensure that the ensemble is perfected. A practice that according to the Norwegian model "not only creates unrealistic beauty standards, but impossible to reach", therefore encourages brands to hire models that actually wear that size: "there are many beautiful women of great size," she insists.
